Summary (from goodreads):
"Dear John," the letter read. And with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives changed forever.
When Savannah Lynn Curtis comes into his life, John Tyree knows he is ready to turn over a new leaf. An angry rebel, he had enlisted in the army after high school, not knowing what else to do. Then, during a furlough, he meets Savannah, the girl of his dreams. The attraction is mutual and quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah vowing to wait for John while he finishes his tour of duty. But neither can foresee that 9/11 is about to change the world. Like so many proud men and women, John must choose between love and country. Now, when he finally returns to North Carolina, John will discover how love can transform us in ways we never could have imagined.

My Thoughts: If I had to sum up my feelings about Dear John in one word, it word be this: Love. I picked this word for obvious reasons: the love between John and Savannah, the love Savannah seemed to radiate, and the love I have for this book. Dear John was the first Nicholas Sparks novel I've read, and it won't be my last. I admit I didn't expect this one to be anything special, and was pleasantly surprised when I turned out to be wrong.
There isn't anything bad I can say about Dear John. I loved the writing, the plot, the characters, the emotion...everything. Which is why this review is so short; my words can't describe how lovely this book was. Its a perfect example of why I love to read. If you're a fan of love stories and haven't read it already, go out and buy Dear John soon. You won't regret it.

It's great to hear that you enjoyed it :) I love Nicholas Sparks as an author and this is one of my favorites by him. The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks is also amazing! Great review :)
ReplyDeleteI really loved this, although I'm not too big of a fan of the wedding. I still haven't seen the movie, but did here they changed the end.
ReplyDeleteWOW, this one sounds awesome !! I haven't seen the movie but I've heard it was pretty good .. so I definitely should read the book before watching it !! Thanks for the review ;)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you liked Dear John.
ReplyDeleteI've been noticing a love/hate divide on book blogs when it comes to Nicholas Sparks.
Don't let this be your only Sparks' book, all that have read were amazing. (I recommend 'A Walk to Remember' and 'The Lucky One' as personal favourites)
I'm a new Follower, too, by the way :)
So happy you enjoy this movie. I would say the book is better, but "they" did do a good job with the movie. http://www.bestnicholassparksbooks.com Dear John and The Notebook are the best Sparks' books turned movie as far as I am concerned.
ReplyDeleteDear John is a very dramatic love story, which connects to the reader's emotions. People should read this book because it is a classic romance novel, which has many twists and turns to captivate the reader's attention. Also, it grips the heart of the reader, and leaves them wanting more of the story.
ReplyDeleteBefore I begin, you do a good work writing reviews and maintaining this blog. About the book, love is the main theme of Dear John, even though Savannah doesn't end up being fair. This book is a masterpiece, so easy to read, yet so full of quality. I must've read it five times so far, all in one sitting. Love stories are great, especially when they are written by Nicholas Sparks, his books inspire me to write my own love stories.
